By working together with the party we can identify and elect Republican candidates that reflect our views. If you are searching for change in our government and want to help promote Republican values then we need you. Help us elect Republicans. Walk with Jim Huffman

Date:
Saturday, August 14, 2010 - 10:00am

Jim Huffman, a constitutional scholar, is running against incumbent (D) Ron Wyden for your United States Senate.  This coming weekend,  Jim Huffman will be walking in the Tualatin Crawfish Festival parade and we want you to join us! He also would like as many people to wear Huffman t-shirts. (the campaign will provide them).

The parade starts at 10:00, but if you'd like to join Jim please show up at 9am. Meet us at the parade staging location, between Wendys and K-Mart, just West of I-5 on Nyberg Road, in Tualatin. Parking is available at the WES (commuter rail) station near Haggen Foods, just a short walk West of the shopping center and the park.

While there, don't forget to show your support for HD37 candidate Julie Parrish, who will also be walking in the parade.

Contact Brendan Price @ 503-960-8234.

Picking On Children, Multnomah County Style

"Just doing her job"? Sure, like any no-sense-of-proportion, tyrannical, liberty-hating, bureaucratic, mind-numbed government robot would do. Score another for the "government wants to put its fingers in everything" side. Julie's got her lemonade, and we've got tea. Got your kettle on the boil?

Update: County Chairman Jeff Cogen felt the heat, and apologized. Read the followup on OregonLive here.

A Sober Look At Our Times

Peggy Noonan writes, in the Wall Street Journal, of her view of recent times, the mood of the people, and the disconnect with government. It is not a happy thought, but perhaps we must weather a storm to put the ship right again. Many have said it before -- some famously, when speaking of the tree ot Liberty -- and yet government seems deaf to the whispers, the complaints, and even the shouts.

So, I will repeat the cliche: "Batten down the hatches; full speed ahead!" Somewhere ahead is calm water and sunny skies, and we must push our way through to it.

Peggy writes:

More Ninth Circuit Nonsense

From PointofLaw.com (www.PointofLaw.com), the Manhattan Institute's web magazine covering litigation issues, comes this look at a decision against Chipotle Restaurants in favor of a "professional plaintiff" who regularly sues businesses over ADA matters.  The Ninth Circuit Court's decision reverses a lower court's finding, and adds to that appelate court's notoriously poor reputation.

Latest Gallup Poll: GOP gaining, Dems LOSING states!

Gallup's "State of the States" report shows top ten GOP & Dem states -- Vermont's #1 Dem; Oregon did not even make the top ten, although it is identified as "solidly Democrat".  We will change that...here's the summary I received from Gallup, along with a link to an interesting poll:

More states are competitive so far in 2010 than was the case in 2009, as fewer Americans nationwide identify with the Democratic Party. Vermont -- along with the District of Columbia -- is the most Democratic state in the U.S. so far this year, while Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho are the most Republican.

A Redneck... Pardon Me: American... Creed

Some people call people who think like me rednecks.

I MIGHT be a redneck? Let me erase any doubt!

I believe that this country has provided the greatest opportunity for achieving a good standard of living, for the most people, of any country in the history of the world. And, if this overreaching, over-obtrusive government would work harder at breaking down barriers to opportunity and growth instead of building barriers, even more Americans could take advantage of the prosperity it would create.

I believe that as a general rule the American people are the most generous and compassionate people on the planet, and that we don't need an overreaching government to coerce us into giving to the agenda-driven causes that a few so called "elites" think are worthy.

A Lessons from "Cabaret", from the Grand Old Partisan

I take hope in the fact that the United States does not have the collectivist past that Europe does, and indeed has a very individualist past, proven by our dominance in the prosperity of the world. God help us if that changes, and we forget WHY we are such a successful society, and such a source of freedom and prosperity for the rest of the world.

Hope and Change and the Scariest Movie Scene Ever

Horror movie buffs may be surprised to know that the scariest scene in the history of cinema has no slasher or space creature or ferocious beast. There's a monster alright, but it's a different kind of monster. Not an imaginary monster, but a real one – the kind of monster that people choose to rule over them.

Learn From The History of Public Unions & California's Financial Debacle

Read this sad history lesson from The City Journal - publication arm of The Manhattan Institute.  It chronicles the 1960s beginning of California public union collective bargaining, the union's steady growth in money and power, and the resulting budget debacle in California today.  The feckless "leadership" of California's elected officials is especially infuriating; they simply acquiesced to union threats and demands.  There is an important lesson to learn here about strong, fiscally responsible negotiations with public unions which well serve the public interest.  Let's hope Oregon can learn this lesson.

Help bring a piece of history to Oregon - USS Ranger

Heads up, patriots! A little help, if you would... to bring a piece of naval history to Oregon. The Navy is considering a proposal to permanently moor the aircraft carrier Ranger -- originally commissioned in 1957 and retired in 1993 -- on the Columbia River near Fairview. Her presence here, as a floating museum, would be a great opportunity to educate people about the US armed forces, and the Navy in particular.

Not only a fighting ship, she also was part of movies like Top Gun and Star Trek IV, where she stood in for her sister ships.

How can you help? Here are the links. You can write letters, donate, and advocate...

Ronald Reagan - 1964 Republican Convention

Remember, remember, remember. The issues don't really change all that much, and Reagan's words sound as fresh and stirring today as they did 46 years ago.
